2022 Retirement Board Election

From June 7, 2022, through June 20, 2022, the Kansas City Police Employees’ Retirement Systems
(KCPERS) will hold an election to fill one position on the Retirement Board created by the expiring
term of (Ret.) Sergeant Robert W. Jones. According to applicable state statutes, any individual can 
seek this open position.  (Ret.) Sergeant Jones has indicated that he will be seeking reelection.

Candidates should submit a letter declaring their candidacy, accompanied by their resume, to the  
attention of Wayne Stewart, Election Director, at the KCPERS office, 9701 Marion Park Drive,
no later than May 2, 2022, at 4:00 p.m.

Following the close of the election filing period, a meeting will be scheduled for all candidates to
ask questions about the election process.   Candidates will also learn more about including a short
candidate profile in the voting ballot packet mailed to all members.

The Retirement Board has engaged Survey & Ballot Systems to conduct the trustee election. Members
will be able to cast their vote by mail, phone, or logging on to a secure website. Please watch
your mail for your election ballot from the Kansas City Police Employees’ Retirement
Systems and Survey & Ballot Systems so that you do not miss instructions on how to cast your vote.

Ballots and voting instructions will be mailed to all KCPERS members on June 6, 2022. All votes
must be received at Survey & Ballot Systems’ office in Minnesota by June 20, 2022. Official voting
results will be provided to the Election Director and Retirement Board Chair by June 23, 2022.

Notice of Election and Filing Period
Notice will include the position to be filled, dates of filing period, instructions on how to file
a candidacy, dates for balloting, and notice of election ballot count reporting.

May 2, 2022
Deadline for Receipt of Filings and Nominations
All filings and nominations must be received at the KCPERS Office no later than 4:00 pm on May 2, 2022.

May 3, 2022
Election Director Meets With Candidates
The Election Director meets with candidates to review the election process. Candidates submit final biography
to be included in ballot mailing.

May 12, 2022
Retirement Board Approves Voting Ballot
Retirement Board approves draft election ballot. Transmit active and retiree member mailing lists,
as of May 1, 2022, to election service vendor.

June 6, 2022
Mail Ballots to All Members (Retirees and Actives)

June 7-20, 2022
Department-Wide Voting
Ballots will be mailed to all members at their address of record as of May 1. Ballots allow for voting via return
mail, telephone, or internet. All voting must be complete and mailed ballots received by June 20.

June 22, 2022
Official Ballot Counting

The Election service vendor shall report the results of election balloting to the Election Director
and Retirement Board Chair.
